The Broadband War Begins
September 11, 2005
Verizon recently reduced the price of their 30mbps/5mbps fios speed packages in selected parts of New York in order to combat Cablevision's Optimum Online BETA service which is currently being offered at the low price of $45.95/month with a 20mbps/2mbps speed.
Previously, the Verizon FiOS 30mbps/5mbps package plan had cost a whopping $180 but is now currently available for only $55 (only in selected areas). This reduction in price is only the beginning as many broadband providers are suiting up for the beginnings of an all out broadband war.
Though in many FiOS available states, there are currently no direct competitors who can beat Verizon's price and speed, however, other broadband service providers are starting to offer speeds and pricing that can possible match Verizon FiOS services causing Verizon to adjust the cost of their services to an unbelievably low price.
Currently, Verizon's new pricing plan is only being offered in selected areas of New York where Cablevision's Optimum Online and Verizon's FiOS service are directly competing with each other head to head. Therefore, states without a heavy competitor like Cablevision won't likely see these new pricing plans soon.
For just $10 extra, Verizon FiOS offers 10mbps more download speed than Optimum Online. Thats only $1 extra for each additional 1mbps. And that's not all you get, you also get more than double the upload speed of Optimum Online's service. Where else can you find a better deal?
